Dear Colleagues,
Welcome to October edition of our quarterly newsletter. In this issue you’ll find a roundup of the latest news from the SPA, including details of some of the key industry events we’re supporting in the coming weeks. And of course, you’ll also find updates on what’s hot in the world of secure payment.
You can’t have failed to notice that right now everyone seems to be talking about Tokenization. From the EMV to the Federal Reserve’s new workgroup and Apple Pay – Tokenization is the current buzz concept that’s making waves across the industry.
Back in May we published a paper on the business and technical drivers for Tokenization alongside our initial feedback on the EMVCo draft framework for Tokenization. You can read the paper here.
Now the SPA has released a new position paper which explores how Tokenization, combined with Host Card Emulation (HCE) technology, potentially opens the way to enabling convenient yet highly secure mobile payments for all – giving rise to an exciting new generation of payment instruments. You can read the paper here.
It’s a topic we’ll be debating with thought leaders at a number of upcoming industry events. In November Lorenzo Gaston, SPA Technical Director, will be participating in a panel discussion on managing the complexities of online and mobile payments at Money 2020 in Las Vegas on Sunday 2nd November 2014 (for more information, click here).
We’re also proud supporters of Cartes Secure Connections. Taking place in Paris on 4-6 November 2014, the theme for this year’s event is Users on the move. It’s a topic that’s top of the agenda for many SPA members, who are committed to responding to the growing need for the interconnection and mobility of end users – especially when it comes to secure mobile payments and transactions. Andreas Strobel will be presenting the topic on the EMV Challenges & Benefits track at Cartes 2014 in Paris on Wednesday 5th November 2014 (for more information, click here)
Finally, I’m proud to announce the launch of the SPA Associate Member Program that enables an even wider range of organizations to participate in the work of the SPA. As well as increasing the opportunities for widespread industry collaboration, the new Associate Member Program promises to create an ever growing community of experts able to tackle the technical, regulatory and commercial complexities of our smart payment market. We hope you find this issue both insightful and thought provoking.
Best regards
Sylvie Gibert,
President of the SPA
